Petito, 22, was tragically strangled to death by her fiancé, Laundrie, 23, on August 27, 2021.

The aspiring travel influencer captured global attention in 2021 after vanishing during a cross-country road trip with Laundrie.

Throughout their journey, Petito shared glimpses of their adventures online, portraying what seemed to be a joyful young couple embracing the freedom of vanlife.

But beneath the carefully curated Instagram posts lay a harrowing reality of abuse.

The 22-year-old was murdered by the man she loved, and he left her body in Wyoming.

Laundrie then travelled to his parents’ in New Port, Florida, on September 1, in Petito’s white Ford Transit van.

He went missing days later, once the FBI began their investigation, but tragically, Petito’s remains were found at Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming.

A month later, the remains of Laundrie were found in Florida’s Myakkahatchee Creek Environmental Park, with authorities later confirming he died by s**ide.

A notebook was discovered close by with a murder confession in it.

Laundrie’s parents refused to speak to the authorities when Petito’s family continued the search for her and were accused of trying to cover up their son’s crimes.

They were not criminally charged but faced a civil case after they failed to disclose that their son had admitted to killing Petito.

A letter written by Laundrie’s mother, Roberta, was presented during the case.

In the note, she told her son: “If you’re in jail, I will bake a cake and put a file in it. If you need to dispose of a body, I will show up with a shovel and garbage bags.”

The words ‘burn after reading’ were written on the envelope.

Petito’s mom, Schmidt, has previously stated she forgives the man who murdered her daughter, but that the family is still upset with Roberta and Christopher Laundrie.

During a recent appearance on The Squeeze podcast with Taylor Lautner and his wife, Tay, Schmidt announced that ‘new information’ had come to light.

She revealed that when Laundrie was missing, his parents had completely cleared out his room.

Schmidt shared: “I actually just found out some new information a few days ago, there was someone who was at the house when Brian was missing.

“I would say he was hiding, he wasn’t missing, but he was actually dead – but his room was completely gutted and renovated. None of his things were there anymore. It was gone.

“So that very same week, Gabby was missing, and cops were going to their house to try to get, I guess, a scent from their dogs to look for Brian, all his things were gone. The room was completely empty, just gone.”

Host Lautner questioned why things had been allowed to be ‘stripped and cleaned and thrown away.’

Schmidt responded: “The van was cleaned out, the mattress was never recovered, and then all the things were packed away in a closet – Gabby’s stuff was packed away in a closet.

“I mean, I don’t understand, I don’t get it. Just strange behavior.”
